Edited to add: Oh my goodness gracious...I've been plowing through the master list of giveaways and am googly eyed after spending HOURS trying to enter everyone's contests. If I have to complete another word verification tonight, I'll tear my hair out by the roots.
I'm convinced it can't be done in a day, so I'm extending this until nighty-night time tomorrow...9-ish or so.
Meanwhile, keep the stories coming. Heidi, oh my gosh...cigs from Grandma? And Julianne, I feel your pain...my husband's done the same thing before (and let me tell you, he paid DEARLY. He's still paying, in fact).
Good luck, everyone!
One of my favorite blogs, Sew, Mama, Sew!, has organized a give-away day today. You can read about it here, but the idea is that everyone who participates gives away a homemade item to a blog reader.
There's a master list over there of participants, and if you've found me, I'm assuming they got my email.
So, welcome! Make yourself at home and please don't mind the dog fur on the sofa.
My contribution to the give-aways is this makeup bag that I whipped up over the weekend.
It's made from Amy Butler fabric and has a contrasting lining and zipper. I've made several of these in the past few weeks as Christmas gifts.
Here's how to enter.
Leave a comment by midnight CST describing the worst Christmas gift you ever received. Was it a homemade makeup bag, perhaps?
Mine, hands-down, was the industrial-sized box of Top Ramen my dad gave me when I was in college. I thought the enormous package under the tree had to contain something wonderful - a computer, perhaps, or at least a case of beer.
Fifteen years later, I still can't walk past Top Ramen in the grocery store without a slight twinge of repulsion.
Now, it's your turn to share your story. I'll randomly select a winner THURSDAY NIGHT, post the results and notify the winner. Your makeup bag will be in the mail Friday.
Unless, of course, you live nearby. If so, I'll drop it off at your house along with a kid and an animal or two.
United States entries only, please; with Christmas breathing down her neck, Mama doesn't have the coin to ship internationally. Good luck!

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 214 of 214The worst Christmas gift I've ever received? You know, that's tough. Maybe it was the "deer" pillow that hubby's gmil gave us. It looked a lot like the pillow that one the "ugliest pillow" contest on designsponge.com. Yikes!
The bag is adorable, and I'd love a chance to win?
so cute! i could definitely use a new make-up bag... or if i wasn't being selfish... it would be a perfect gift for my best friend :)
worst christmas present? socks & underwear... somewhat typical presents, but usually when we had a small, family christmas -- not in this case when my boyfriend had stopped by. *groan*
the worst was a really awful and large bottle of perfum when I was 10...which seemed like an odd age for perfume, especially nasty stuff like I got.
So cute! As for worst gift, so far it's been a zebra "inspired" sweater that my gma gave me and I couldn't take it back ANYWHERE even though it had tags...frustrating! and so ugly!
What a nice giveaway, thanks so much! I'm stuck, I cannot think of a bad Christmas present like some of these I am reading. My friend though, her husband gave her Rain X for Valentine's day. That's pretty bad, does that count?
My worst christmas gift... well, there is a category of christmas gifts that I get every year and loathe. My dad works at Hollywood Video (and before that Blockbuster) and every year my sister and I get a random assortment of crappy candy and toys they sell in the video stores. Not even the good candy like snickers, but the bad candy like fake hamburgers and those waxy milk bottle things. Bleh!
My worst gift would have to be one of those Hickory Farms food sets. They are a good gift but this came from my husband who knows I do not like them- he does! So when I wasn't eating it later that week he asked if he could have it, and he finished it! Husbands can be bad at gift buying!!
I have been needing a new makeup bag, so this would be perfect. I also love the fabric you chose. Thanks for your generosity!
This is a tough one...I've had pretty good gift luck. Probably b/c we always do lists in my family. I think probably some book about chocolate from a friend's mother. Not tht i have anything against chocolate...but I'd rather have the real thing than read about it, ya know? :)
Lisa, you have won a give-away at my blog -- the coffee cozy. Please send your snail mail address to me at
marti AT martinelsonpotter DOT com
Thanks for visiting my blog, and congrats on winning!
Worst? I dunno.. Ive never recieved anything horrible, but Ive got a few things that are soooo not me. I dont do jewelry at all (cept my wedding band) and several people have got me jewelry (cheap stuff).
Oh my goodness! My uncle still gives all of us underwear and socks for Christmas. He has since we were kids. I'm now 32 and still getting underwear and socks, LOL!
Thanks for the chance to win, the bag is adorable
My worst gift would be a complete set of crochet hooks and knitting needles. I love to sew but I've never crocheted or knitted before - I guess the giver thought I was into all things crafty. It's too bad because they're really nice sets but they've been sitting unused for almost 10 years now.
worst gift at a party where you trade and take presents from each other was a smashed bag of potato chips......enter me please
